Building AI for Social Good in India

India is a nation of 1.35 billion people. However, most of their dreams remain unrealised due to illiteracy, hunger, diseases, natural disasters and numerous other socio-economic challenges. Having demonstrated superhuman levels of performance at understanding images, speech and natural language and beaten world-champions at some of the hardest games known to man, Artificial Intelligence has emerged as a highly promising tool to ameliorate these handicaps that currently face our society. up.AI (pronounced “upay” (उपाय), meaning “solution” in Hindi) is a joint initiative of The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Kharagpur and the Centre for Excellence in Artificial Intelligence, IIT Kharagpur to invite the KGPians to learn and identify burning problems in our country and create AI powered solutions.

up.AI Bootcamp

A three hour deep dive into the theory, implementation and deployment of AI-powered algorithms to get up to speed with the Deep Learning revolution. Organized in partnership with Intel AI Academy, this event will also feature a one-of-a-kind Deep Learning Quiz. Lots of goodies to be won.

up.AI Workshop

Two and a half days of tutorials, talks by relevant personalities from the Academia and the Industry and spotlight presentations by the students and research scholars of IIT Kharagpur about their work in the areas of focus of up.AI.

Submit Spotlight Presentation

The Submission Deadline for Spotlight Presentation is 20 September 2018. Results will be declared on 30 September 2018. The template for the presentation is downloadable here.
If selected you will get an opportunity to present in the workshop.





up.AI Challenge

The students of IIT Kharagpur are invited to form teams of size three and submit project proposals in the areas of focus of up.AI. 10 projects will be selected for incubation during the winter vacation under the mentorship of professors, industry-experts and PhD students to convert the ideas into deployable solutions. Exciting prizes and/or internship/job offers await the winner and the two runner up teams.
